Gat Caperton of Gat Creek on Rocket Motivation with Rod Cate

On this week’s episode, we learn the story of Gat Caperton, CEO of Gat Creek Furniture. At age 29, Gat borrowed 90% of the purchase price and bought a small wood manufacturer in Berkley Springs, West Virginia. After initial success, the market turned, and the bottom fell out. Things looked bleak. Gat tells the story of his perseverance and tenacity in saving the business, not just for himself, but for his employees, many of whom have been making furniture their entire lives.

Key Takeaways:

- It’s all about getting knocked down and getting back up – having tenacity.

- You need to care more about other people than yourself.

- The secret to keep going is just keep going.

- The odds of failure are much higher if you quit.

- If you’re going to be successful, get ready to fail. It’s what you do after you fail that’s important.
